Classes We Offer
Capoeira Angola, and the contemporary styles of Capoeira, Maculelê and Samba Dances, Tumbling & acrobatics movements, and Personal Defense.

Capoeira is challenging! Students can expect to be pretty tired - and even a little sore after their first class. But the challenge is part of what makes capoeira so exciting. Classes combine movement training with instruction in Brazilian history and culture, Portuguese language, and traditional music. Following warm-up, the majority of each class is spent in training capoeira movements individually and with partners. Music and language practice then accompany the application of capoeira movements in an open game called the "roda." Capoeira training is great for students of all ages, but classes are specifically tailored to the needs of specific age groups. Classes are available for teens, adults, and kids ages 4 and up. Check the class descriptions and the schedule below to determine the appropriate class times and get started now to schedule your first class.

Pre-Capoeira: Ages 4 to 6
This class emphasizes patience, fun games with moral lessons, and practice. Students learn to perform basic capoeira movements, beginning tumbling, how to play tambourine and clap the hands and sing simple songs in Portuguese in the rhythm of the game. Participants will play between them and with older students as well.

Kids: Ages 6 to 10
Kids love this capoeira class! Classes are high energy and challenging in a fun atmosphere. Students learn the basic capoeira kicks and dodges, as well as acrobatics like handstands and cartwheels. Kids will learn to play the traditional capoeira instruments; the berimbau, pandeiros, and atabaque. Beginning Portuguese vocabulary is incorporated into each class and students learn to sing capoeira music in Portuguese. This class emphasizes developing discipline and confidence as students learn challenging capoeira movements and have many opportunities to perform in front of their peers.

Youth: Ages 10 to 15
At this age, students begin learning the more difficult acrobatic movements. Classes focus on strengthening basic techniques and building from that foundation to add more complex movements to the capoeira game. Youth students work to develop the discipline required to master challenging movements and learn to set goals that allow them to achieve long-term success. In this class students learn to sing the capoeira music in Portuguese while playing the traditional instruments and learn more about the historical context and evolution of capoeira.

Adult Basics: Ages 15 and up
Get in the best shape of your life and have a great time doing it! Capoeira classes give adults a full body workout. Challenging acrobatic movements develop balance and muscular strength. High kicks increase flexibility and fast paced classes provide excellent aerobic conditioning. Best of all, classes are fun. Capoeira training is a great way to meet new people, challenge yourself, and learn first hand about Brazilian language, history, music, and culture. The best way to get to know more about capoeira is to try it!
